Swinburne Sarawak’s job fair is another hit

KUCHING –The recent Career and Employment Fair organised by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus proved to be another successful one.

The multipurpose hall, venue for the event on the campus, was constantly packed with graduates and students in search of internship and job opportunities throughout the day.

More than 500 visitors were estimated to have attended the fair, held for the fifth year by the university.

“The fair serves as a meeting place for students and companies to explore employment opportunities in an informal setting,” said Professor Anthony Cahalan, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University, before he officially declared the fair open.

“Swinburne University graduates are always in high demand and we enjoy one of the highest employability rates for our graduates,” he said.

“The 37 companies here today are gaining access to the cream of Malaysia’s university students and our students are gaining access to some of the top employers in Malaysia.

“We thank you for your participation and may this fifth Swinburne Sarawak Career Fair be the best ever,” Cahalan said.

The companies participating in the fair came from a range of industries including oil and gas, engineering, banking, automotive, education, telecommunications and insurance.

Graduates from Swinburne Sarawak and other institutions of higher learning made good use of the opportunity to make enquiries and send in their applications.

The participating companies were inundated with inquiries. Saying that it was a “good day”, Campus Marketing Advisor from Shell People Services (Asia) Sdn Bhd Sheila Bala added that she received numerous queries from Swinburne Sarawak graduates and students as well as those from other public and private institutions of higher learning.

“It’s a good fair and we will probably come again next year. I met a lot of commercial talents and we have a lot of roles such as accounting, procurement, logistics and IT for our downstream projects,” Sheila said.

A number of talks by selected companies as well as a scavenger hunt were held, as were a personality assessment test for graduates and students who were undecided on their choice of career.
