New degrees in Advertising and Public Relations

KUCHING – SPM school leavers who are considering a career in advertising or public relations will be happy to know that degrees in these two disciplines are now offered by Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus.

To qualify for entry into either the Bachelor of Business (Advertising) or Bachelor of Business (Public Relations), they will first need to complete the university’s one-year foundation studies.

The foundation studies are designed to prepare students for degree programs. Those starting pre-university courses this 23 March will be able to begin their degree studies by early next year.

The Bachelor of Business (Advertising) focuses on the importance of advertising in the business environment, and creativity in making the most of advertising in achieving organizational objectives.

Advertising can lead to media buying and campaign-planning roles in advertising, marketing and public relations agencies, and in sales, marketing or communication departments of large organisations.

Students will acquire the skills needed to create effective advertisements and advertising campaigns, and the many ways to deliver them.

Apart from the advertising industry, graduates can also find careers with human resource departments as part of the organisation’s recruitment.

The importance of communication and relationship building in reaching corporate objectives is the emphasis of the Bachelor of Business (Public Relations). Graduates will appreciate how public relations supports the implementation of strategic plans, communication planning and campaign development.

The subjects help students to be work-ready and capable of taking on the challenges in the dynamic professional communication sector.

Both bachelor degrees will take a total of three years to complete. The first two years will be completed at Swinburne Sarawak while the final year of study will be completed at Swinburne’s campus in Melbourne, Australia.
