Swinburne and IMetal Celebrate Successful Collaboration in Implementing IIoT Solutions

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and IMetal (M) Sdn Bhd celebrate their successful collaboration in implementing Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions in IMetal, marking a pivotal milestone in the industry’s journey towards Industry 4.0. 

Swinburne Sarawak was engaged in the research and development of a robust system addressing challenges in integrating legacy production equipment with innovative IIoT technology in IMetal’s daily production. 

Led by Ir. Dr. Hudyjaya Siswoyo Jo and Professor Patrick Then, the collaborative efforts aim to streamline IMetal’s production processes, enhance production efficiency, and ease more intelligent business decision-making. Dr. Hudyjaya couldn’t emphasize enough the crucial role of integrating cyber-physical assets in implementing Industry 4.0.  

“This integration poses challenges for industries with legacy technology. Through this partnership, Swinburne contributes expertise in Automation and Industrial IoT (Internet of Things), resulting in the development and deployment of customised software and hardware systems.”

The deployment involves minimal modifications to IMetal’s existing machines, minimising implementation costs and avoiding disruption to current production processes. 

This collaboration exemplifies Swinburne’s commitment to advancing research and innovation for the benefit of industries. The successful integration of IIoT solutions at IMetal aligns with the broader industry trend towards Industry 4.0, promising higher productivity, intelligent decision-making, and enhanced flexibility. The key benefits of the system include eliminating manual data entry because it automates data collection; real-time data for informed decision-making; and seamless integration with ERP, thus optimising workflow efficiency.
