Swinburne Sarawak Open Day to showcase Australian education

KUCHING – SPM and STPM school leavers looking to obtain an Australian qualification in their career plans may explore the course offerings at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus during its Open Day this Saturday, 6 December.

Swinburne Sarawak is the only international branch campus of Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. Its courses are identical to those of its home campus.

SPM school leavers with plans to pursue a degree in business, computing, design, engineering or science may first enrol on preparatory foundation studies that lead directly to these undergraduate courses.

The university offers foundation courses in business, design, engineering/science, and IT/multimedia. These are one year programs, after which the student may proceed to degree studies at Swinburne Sarawak or at its campus in Australia.

The majority of its courses are accredited by professional bodies and recognised by industry both in Malaysia and Australia.

Classes for the foundation studies start on 12 January while degree courses begin on 2 March, next year.

Those who wish to apply for a course are advised to produce their IC and birth certificate, and applications made on the day will be given an application fee waiver.

The university has lined up a host of activities to help parents and their children make better informed decisions on higher education. On show will be student projects and demonstrations from the engineering, business, computing, design and biotechnology faculties. These provide a window into what is involved in studying the courses.

A quick computerised test is available to those who are undecided on their choice of study. Based on the test result, trained counsellors from the university will offer advice on suitable courses.

Information on a range of scholarships and study loans will also be available.

To learn about the facilities and services available to students on campus, guided tours may be requested.
