Swinburne’s Open Day on 23 March to feature a variety of vendors and food trucks

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus’ upcoming Open Day on 23 March 2024 will offer more than an opportunity for visitors to explore the next-generation university and its offerings; the event will also feature a diverse array of participating external vendors.

Open to all members of the public, the Open Day will be held from 10am to 4pm at the university campus along Jalan Simpang Tiga.

The external vendors taking part in the university event will showcase various merchandise and items ranging from food and beverages to clothing, accessories, artistic products and more. Among the anticipated vendors are Kuching Autistic Association (KAA), Brew Coffee Bakery, Three Tea, Le Atelier, Sluvi, Eureka Kraft, Margaret Nail Studio, Jabing Studio, Omok.co, Daisy Dalia and Babyygohenna.

A variety of food trucks are also expected at the Open Day, including Vanillapong, King Kojack, Sushi Chef on Wheels, Swee Kang Ais Kacang, Kopi Hainan and d-FRentz.

KAA President Dr Catherine Chen said the association was excited for its inaugural participation in Swinburne Sarawak’s Open Day.

She noted that KAA had previously collaborated with the Swinburne Photomedia and Design Club for a kimchi T-shirt design charity event back in 2022. “Our students were honoured to have their kimchi designs featured on T-shirts and stickers during the charity event,” she said.

“This year, KAA looks forward to showcasing some of our students’ artwork designs on merchandise such as T-shirts, tote bags, bucket hats, notebooks, mugs, lanyards, umbrellas, magnets, keychains and other items, under our Autism Art label. We also have bracelets and necklaces made with love by about 30 of our students,” said Dr Chen.

“Do check out our range of products and support the efforts of KAA students from our Secondary Instruction Program and our adults with autism from our Sheltered Workshop. Your support makes a difference in the lives of our students, their families and the autism community,” she said.

Meanwhile, Vanillapong Founder Mr Muinuddin bin Matnor remarked that participating in the Open Day event would be a great opportunity to engage with students and visitors, adding that it was a potential partnership with the university from time to time.

“It is a chance to showcase our brand to a new audience and potentially build connections that could lead to future opportunities,” he said.

“Visitors to Vanillapong’s food truck can look forward to a delightful selection of vanilla ice cream treats in a cone, bun or cup (small, regular and large) plus free toppings with seven options to choose from. Join us at Swinburne Open Day and indulge in a sweet symphony of vanilla with gula apong at Vanillapong’s food truck!” said Mr Muinuddin.
