Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus opened in Kuching in 2000. It is a partnership between Swinburne Australia and the Sarawak government via Yayasan Sarawak and Sarawak Higher Education Foundation. The campus is part of a long term strategy by Swinburne Australia to globalise its operations and provide its students with international living, working and learning opportunities. The Swinburne Sarawak campus offers programs in commerce/business, engineering, science, ICT and design that are identical to those offered by its home campus in Melbourne. Programs range from foundation to postgraduate levels.
The Sarawak campus aims to be research intensive and has technologically advanced engineering and science research facilities. It is continuously engaged in research projects with the public and private sectors while its industry consultancy projects keep staff members up-to-date with industry development.
