Note: Access to ILL service is suspended if you have overdue loans at Swinburne Library or if you have exceeded your borrowing privileges.

What can you request?

  • Material that is not held at Swinburne Sarawak Library.
  • Material that is owned by Swinburne Sarawak Library, but missing.
  • Requests must support or relate to current research or teaching.
  • Material will be obtained from within Malaysia and from Swinburne Melbourne. 
    Note: Fees apply to obtain material unrelated to current Swinburne research or teaching.

How long does it take to supply?

  • Most requests are supplied within one week;, but may vary depending on the supplying library.

Collection and delivery process

  • Books
    Inter-library loans will email you when your item is ready to collect. Bring your Swinburne ID card to collect it. Material that is restricted for use within the library will only be available from the service desk in exchange for your Swinburne ID card.
  • Articles
    Some material is supplied to the library electronically. Formats and access conditions for these items vary and may include URLs. If the item you request is received electronically, we will advise you by email of the access requirements.
    Note: Some material is not available electronically.

Loan periods and renewals

Loan periods vary from two weeks to four weeks. Check the email received and note on the front of the book for the due date. Renewals are granted at the discretion of the lending library. One renewal is usually permitted. To request a renewal:

 

Items with restricted use

Other libraries reserve the right to place restrictions on the material they supply. Swinburne Sarawak Library is bound by these restrictions. You may be required to use the item within Swinburne Sarawak Library, or sign a declaration that you have read it.

 

Copyright

All requests must comply with the Copyright Law as stated below:

The copyright law of Malaysia (Copyright Act 1987 (Act 332)) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not for:

  • selling, letting for hire, or by way of trade, offering or exposing for sale or hire, the article;
  • distributing the article
    • for the purpose of trade; or
    • for any other purpose to an extent that it will affect prejudicially the owner of the copyright; or
    • by way of trade, exhibiting the article in public

If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of fair use, that user may be liable of copyright infringement and the penalty.

The library reserves the rights to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.

 

Loss or damaged of material

The borrower holds personal responsibility for the care of all items borrowed and for the return of the items in good condition. If an item is lost or damaged the borrower must report this to the library staff.  The borrower will be responsible for all costs and charges associated with the replacement or repair of the item.
