Referencing software helps you collect, organise and manage your references and create bibliographies in Microsoft Word.
Collect and sort all your research references and full text articles in an EndNote library, then link to Word or Google documents to create properly formatted documents and bibliographies. You can change the bibliography styles easily to meet your assignments or publication needs. All Swinburne students and staff can install EndNote on personal computers.
There are two versions of EndNote available:
EndNote for desktop

EndNote, AI and copyright
The AI Key Takeaway feature in EndNote 2025 generates concise, AI-produced summaries of full-text documents that users attach or upload to their EndNote records.
However, it's important to note that some publishers whose articles and book chapters are hosted in Swinburne-subscribed databases place restrictions on the use of AI technologies with their content, including the full text of their publications.
Under copyright law, creators have the right to control how their work is copied, communicated, or adapted. Uploading full-text documents into EndNote 2025 may inadvertently affect these rights, especially if the content is used in ways not permitted by the publisher's licensing terms.
Please ensure you are complying with copyright and licensing conditions when importing full text.
Considerations when using copyright material as an input
Copyright laws protect a creator’s right to determine how their work can be copied, communicated (including shared or performed), or adapted (including translated or remixed). When using copyright work as an input to AI models you may impact these rights. Before using copyright material with AI, consider if the tool is public or private and the type of material you are planning to use.
Public AI tools
Refers to AI tools that are available without a subscription. These models tend to be trained or uploaded materials.
Private AI tools
Are those that run in a secure environment. Often these involve an additional subscription or changing a setting to ensure the material is not being used for training. It is recommended that Swinburne staff and students use Microsoft Copilot, available through your Microsoft 365 account.
